Hester Eisenstein
Professor
Ms Hester Eisenstein is a Professor of Sociology at
Queens College and at the Graduate School and University Center, where she
does one-third of her teaching. From February 1996 to December 2000 she
served as the Director of the Women's Studies Program at Queens College.
Her major publications include Inside Agitators: Australian Femocrats
and the
State (Temple University Press, 1996); Gender Shock: Practicing
Feminism on
Two Continents (Beacon, 1991); and Contemporary Feminist
Thought (G.K. Hall,
1983).
Prof. Eisenstein's current teaching and
research focus on gender and globalization in relation to the international
women's movement. She is a socialist, antiracist, antihomophobic
feminist, who believes in supporting and developing those elements of the
contemporary women's movement that can best contribute to the creation of
a sustainable and equitable human society. She combines teaching
and activism in a fruitful synthesis, and encourages such a blend in her
students.
My most recent book is Inside Agitators:
Australian Femocrats and the State.
