Phil Lewis regularly teaches General Introduction to Sociology (Soc 101), Social Problems (Soc 208), Racial & Ethnic Relations (Soc 211), The Sociology of Sports (Soc 240) and Advanced Social Problems (Soc 381W). He is currently developing a course in Visual Sociology (Soc 240).

The 1990 recipient of the Paul Neurath Graduate Scholarship, Phil holds an M.A. in Applied Social Research in Sociology from Queens College. He received his B.A. in Rhetoric and Communications from the University at Albany.

Phil’s Master’s thesis was entitled “Influence of AIDS: Attitudes in Medical Students’ Specialty Choice”. He conducted a primary research study at Mount Sinai Medical School that probed medical students’ attitudes and fears of contracting HIV/AIDS from patients and how those attitudes and fears might impact their choice of medical specialty.

Phil has worked as a data analyst/manager at PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Citibank and most recently, the NYC Department of Finance.

In addition, Phil was the radio voice of the 1985 Albany-Colonie Yankees (Eastern League) and the radio voice of the 1984-86 University at Albany Great Danes Football and Basketball teams.
