Office: Powdermaker Hall 252C Ms Hester Eisenstein is a Professor of Sociology at Queens College and at the Graduate School and University Center, where she does one-third of her teaching. From February 1996 to December 2000 she served as the Director of the Women’s Studies Program at Queens College. Her major publications include Inside Agitators: Australian Femocrats and the State (Temple University Press, 1996); Gender Shock: Practicing Feminism on Two Continents (Beacon, 1991); and Contemporary Feminist Thought (G.K. Hall, 1983). Prof. Eisenstein’s current teaching and research focus on gender and globalization in relation to the international women’s movement. She is a socialist, antiracist, antihomophobic feminist, who believes in supporting and developing those elements of the contemporary women’s movement that can best contribute to the creation of a sustainable and equitable human society. She combines teaching and activism in a fruitful synthesis, and encourages such a blend in her students My most recent book is Inside Agitators: Australian Femocrats and the State. |
